> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

# Retirement

> Set up a 401(k) through one of Every's partners and record your provider

![Retirement provider selector open with its two available choices.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/k5maP8xPODHl5ToY/images/illustrations/admins-benefits-retirement-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=k5maP8xPODHl5ToY\&q=85\&s=1301e3290cfcdcdd60b7bf5ba2b3e9e9)

**Benefits** lists retirement partners under **Financial**, where you start setup with one of them. When **Home** shows a 401(k) compliance alert, you record your provider there.

Company Admins and HR Admins can use **Benefits** after your company enables payroll and finishes company and payroll onboarding.

## Start with a partner

On **Benefits**, select the retirement partner's row under **Financial**. The partner's website opens in a new tab, where you continue setup.

The first time anyone at your company selects a partner, its row shows **In Progress**. Selecting it again keeps its current badge.

## Record your provider

If your company already has a 401(k) plan, record its provider from the 401(k) compliance alert on **Home**.

**1. Open the alert**

On **Home**, select the 401(k) compliance alert to open **Setup 401k policy**.

**2. Select your provider**

In **401k Provider**, select **Human Interest** or **Octave Wealth**.

**3. Save the provider**

Select **Submit**. Every saves the provider and marks the alert complete.

![Home with the 401(k) provider selector and the app sidebar.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/qvvudeZxc26V6Klz/images/screens/admins-benefits-retirement-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=qvvudeZxc26V6Klz\&q=85\&s=7b5ddf7c137c594354fe92ea2523d3d3)

If you don't have a plan yet, the link in the sheet's explanation opens **Benefits**, where you can choose a partner.

## Dismiss the 401(k) alert

Selecting **Dismiss** opens a dialog that asks you to confirm that every employee on payroll, excluding contractors, is a company owner.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The dialog warns that dismissing the alert won't protect you from penalties, and that your state may require a 401(k) if any employee isn't an owner. If you have hired non-owners, select **Cancel, I have hired non-owners and need a 401k** to record your provider instead.

1. On **Home**, select **Dismiss** on the 401(k) compliance alert.
2. In the dialog, select **Dismiss, we are all founders and don't need a 401k**. Every removes the alert from **Home**.

## Agent reference

**Where:** On **Benefits**, under **Financial**, for retirement partners. When a 401(k) compliance alert exists on **Home**, the alert opens **Setup 401k policy** to record the company's provider.

**Who:** Company Admins and HR Admins use the **Benefits** sidebar item after the company enables payroll and finishes company and payroll onboarding. Company Admins and HR Admins can record a provider through the 401(k) compliance alert on **Home** when the alert exists.
