> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

# Create an account

> Sign up for Every with your work email, verify it with a code, then start your company's application

![The Create account card, with a masked password in its field and the strength meter full at Strong.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/k5maP8xPODHl5ToY/images/illustrations/admins-getting-started-creating-an-account-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=k5maP8xPODHl5ToY\&q=85\&s=26edfd9dd84420b4d7e8be7dec747238)

Signing up for Every creates your company in Every, with you as its Company Admin, then opens your company's application. The sign-up page is [app.every.io/v2/signup](https://app.every.io/v2/signup), and Every's sign-in page links to it with **Sign up**.

## Before you begin

Signing up always creates a new company. If your company already uses Every, ask one of its Company Admins to add you instead.

You need a work email that doesn't have an Every account yet.

**1. Open the sign-up page**

On Every's sign-in page, select **Sign up**, or go to [app.every.io/v2/signup](https://app.every.io/v2/signup).

**2. Enter your details**

Enter your **Legal first name**, **Legal last name**, **Work email** and **Legal company name**. Then choose your **Job title**, enter your **Phone number** and choose your **Country of residence**. If you don't work at the company, choose "I am not an employee" as your job title.

**3. Choose a password**

Enter it in **Password**, then again in **Confirm Password**. It needs at least 8 characters, with at least one lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number and symbol. Spaces aren't allowed.

**4. Create the account**

Select **Create account**. Doing so accepts Every's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

**5. Verify your email**

Every emails a 6-digit code to your work email. Enter it under **Confirmation code**, then select **Continue**.

## What happens next

Every signs you in and opens your company's application at its first step, **Company Details**. Its first question, **Have you incorporated yet?**, sets what comes next:

* **No**, if you'd like Every to incorporate your company: see [Incorporate your company](https://every-a2724ddc.mintlify.site/admins/getting-started/incorporate-your-company.md).
* **Yes**, if your company already exists: see [Open a bank account](https://every-a2724ddc.mintlify.site/admins/getting-started/open-a-bank-account.md).

You stay in the application until you submit it. Every saves your answers as you go, so you can leave and finish later. Once the application is submitted, go to **Settings** → **Administrators** to give teammates access (see [Administrators and roles](https://every-a2724ddc.mintlify.site/admins/settings/users.md)).

If you work at the company and live in the U.S., you also complete your own employee onboarding once payroll is set up (see [Add your employees](https://every-a2724ddc.mintlify.site/admins/getting-started/add-your-employees.md#complete-owner-onboarding)).

## Troubleshooting

* "Email already in use. Log in below": that email already has an Every account. Select **Sign in** and sign in with it.
* "This password is not allowed": choose a different password.
* "Invalid code": enter the most recent code Every emailed you.
* "This code has expired", or the code never arrived: select **Resend code**, then enter the newest code. You can ask for another after 60 seconds.
* "Too many attempts": email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to confirm your account.
* You closed the page before entering the code: sign in with your email and password, and Every emails you a new code.

## Agent reference

**Where:** The sign-up page, [app.every.io/v2/signup](https://app.every.io/v2/signup). Every's sign-in page links to it with **Sign up**. After **Create account**, the page shows the **Verification Code** screen.

**Who:** Anyone whose email doesn't have an Every account yet. Signing up always creates a new company, and the person who signs up gets the Company Admin and Employee roles in it.

### Facts

#### The sign-up form

* The sign-up form asks for **Legal first name**, **Legal last name**, **Work email**, **Legal company name**, **Job title**, **Phone number**, **Country of residence**, **Password** and **Confirm Password**, and each one is required.
* On the sign-up form, **Job title** and **Country of residence** are lists to choose from, and the **Phone number** country code starts on the U.S.
* On the sign-up form, a **Work email** that isn't a valid email address shows "Email address format is invalid".
* When **Legal first name**, **Legal last name** or **Legal company name** on the sign-up form has characters that IRS forms don't support, the field shows "Not supported on IRS forms:" with those characters, and how the name will appear.
* An Every password needs at least 8 characters, with at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one number and one symbol, and no spaces. Only these count as a symbol: `! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + { } [ ] : ; < > , . ? ~ \ -`.
* While someone types a password on the sign-up form, a list headed "Password must contain:" shows the rules it still misses.
* The sign-up form rates the password **Very weak**, **Weak**, **Good** or **Strong** while someone types it.
* On the sign-up form, a password with a space shows "Password cannot contain spaces", and a password missing a rule shows "Password needs" with the first missing rule, such as "Password needs at least 1 symbol".
* On the sign-up form, two passwords that differ show "Passwords don't match".
* Selecting **Create account** on the sign-up form accepts Every's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, which the form links to.
* The sign-up form links to Every's sign-in page with **Sign in**, and to help with **Contact Support**.

#### Errors at sign-up

* Sign-up refuses an email that already has an Every account, with "Email already in use. Log in below". One email can't sign up a second company.
* Sign-up refuses some passwords with a message that starts "This password is not allowed".
* If sign-up can't finish, the form shows "Something went wrong" or "Sign up failed, try again later".

#### Verifying the email

* After **Create account**, Every emails a 6-digit verification code to the **Work email**, and the **Verification Code** screen asks for it under **Confirmation code**.
* On the **Verification Code** screen, **Continue** stays off until all 6 digits are in.
* On the **Verification Code** screen, **Resend code** sends a new code, and the screen says only the latest code works. After a resend, the button counts down 60 seconds, as in "Resend code (60s)", before it can send another.
* On the **Verification Code** screen, a wrong code shows "Invalid code", and an expired one shows "This code has expired".
* After too many attempts, the **Verification Code** screen says "Too many attempts. Email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to confirm your account.", and **Resend code** turns off. To confirm your account, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).
* Someone who leaves the **Verification Code** screen before entering the code signs in later on Every's sign-in page with their email and password. Every then emails a new code and shows the **Verification Code** screen.
* After sign-up, a correct code on the **Verification Code** screen signs the person in.

#### What sign-up sets up

* Signing up creates a new company with the **Legal company name**, and gives the person who signs up the Company Admin and Employee roles in it.
* A person who signs up with a **Job title** other than "I am not an employee" and the U.S. as their **Country of residence** also completes their own employee onboarding, from **Complete onboarding for** and their name in **Setup payroll** on **Home**, once the company's payroll is set up.
* Signing up gives the new company four departments: General & Administrative (G\&A), Research & Development (R\&D), Sales & Marketing (S\&M) and Operations. Company Admins and HR Admins find them in **Settings** → **Departments**.
* After a correct code on the **Verification Code** screen, Every opens the company's application at its first step, **Company Details**.
* The application's first question is **Have you incorporated yet?**, with **Yes** (Yes, I already have a company) and **No** (No, I would like to incorporate one).
* Only Company Admins and Bookkeepers can open the company's application, and they stay in it until it's submitted.
* The company's application keeps its answers, so someone can leave it and finish later.
* Only Company Admins see **Administrators** in **Settings**, where they give teammates access.
