> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

**1. Start deactivation**

Select **Deactivate**.

**2. Enter the confirmation**

Enter **DEACTIVATE**.

**3. Close the card**

Select **Deactivate card**. The card is permanently closed.

## Share a card

You can share a card you hold. People you share it with can see its details and make purchases.

**1. Choose to share**

Under **Share card**, choose **Shared with multiple people**.

**2. Add people**

Select **Add new**.

**3. Search for people**

In **Share card with**, search for the people you want to add.

**4. Choose the people**

Select each person you want to add.

1. Select the X that appears when you hover over the person's row under **Shared with**.

## Use a card shared with you

A card shared with you shows **Shared card** when you open it. You can make purchases with it, see its details and use **View info** to show the card number and CVV of an active card. You can't rename, freeze, deactivate or share it, or set its PIN.

If you own its assigned budget, you can change **Spending Budget**. If it has none, you can choose a budget you own.

## See or change a card's spending budget

> [!NOTE]
>
> Every turns on spending budgets company by company. If you don't see them, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to ask about them.

On a card's **Details** tab, **Spending Budget** shows its budget assignment. If you own the assigned budget, you can choose another budget you own. For an unassigned card, you can choose a budget you own.

To remove an assignment:

1. Under **Spending Budget**, select **No budget**.
2. In **Remove budget from this card?**, select **Remove budget**.

Changes affect future transactions; past transactions keep their budget. A budget name without a picker means you can't change that assignment.

![Your card's Spending Budget picker, with No budget and budgets you own, beside the app sidebar.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/19nP2pdcB7HMtcYU/images/screens/employees-my-cards-budget-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=19nP2pdcB7HMtcYU\&q=85\&s=e2888e4b221d2e12c6bb10b8381f1472)

## Get help with your card

If a purchase is declined:

**1. Open the purchase**

On [My transactions](https://every-a2724ddc.mintlify.site/employees/my-transactions.md), open the declined purchase.

**2. Review the decline reason**

Look for **Decline reason** in the purchase details.

**3. Check the card**

On **My cards**, check the card's status and spend limit.

**4. Ask for help**

If the reason is missing or unclear, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io). Include the merchant, amount, date and message shown.

If a card you hold is lost or stolen, or a charge looks unfamiliar:

**1. Open the card**

On **My cards**, open the card you hold.

**2. Pause an active card**

If the card is active, select **Freeze**.

**3. Report the problem**

Email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to report the problem, ask about a replacement or get help with the charge. Include the card's last digits and, for a charge, the merchant, amount and date.

If the card is shared with you, ask its cardholder to freeze it.

For a card marked **Suspected Fraud**, the sheet says "This card is blocked to protect you due to suspected fraudulent activity." Email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to ask what to do next.

If a link about a suspected fraudulent card transaction says "This link has expired" or "We couldn't save your response", email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) for help or a new link.

* The cardholder can activate a card. On **My cards**, the employee selects **Activate card** in the banner once the card arrives, which opens **Activate your Every card**.
* **Activate your Every card** on **My cards** starts with **Confirm card details**. In **Confirm with security code**, the employee enters the 3-digit code on the back of the card. In **Card expiration date**, they enter the date as MM/YYYY. Then they select **Confirm**.
* In **Activate your Every card** on **My cards**, after **Confirm**, a debit card asks for a **Card PIN**. The employee enters a 4-digit PIN and selects **Save & close**.
* A credit card has no PIN step in **Activate your Every card** on **My cards**, and PIN is not offered on credit cards.
* A card PIN set on **My cards** takes 4 digits, numbers only. The **Card PIN** step says "It's used to make payments in person or complete transactions at an ATM."
* The **Status** column on **My cards** can show **Active**, **Inactive**, **Frozen**, **Closed**, **Suspected Fraud**, **Lost** and **Pending registration**.
* A **Pending registration** card on **My cards** says "This card becomes available once the employee completes the onboarding." and shows no buttons under the card.
* On **My cards**, a physical card that has shipped and isn't activated yet shows **Inactive**. The only button under an **Inactive** card the employee holds, in its sheet, is **Deactivate**. The sheet also shows **Activate card** under **Your new card is on the way**.
* A **Frozen** card on **My cards** is temporarily frozen and can't be used until it is unfrozen. The buttons under a **Frozen** card are **Unfreeze** and **Deactivate**, except that a card frozen by a used-up **One time** limit has no **Unfreeze**.
* A **Closed** card on **My cards** is closed and no longer available for use. No buttons show under the card.

* The PIN form on **My cards** asks for a **New PIN** of 4 digits, plus the **Current PIN** when a PIN is already set. **Save PIN** saves it.
* On **My cards**, **Deactivate** shows on an **Active**, **Inactive**, **Frozen** or **Lost** card. The cardholder can close it.
* On **My cards**, **Deactivate** asks the employee to enter **DEACTIVATE**, then to select **Deactivate card**. It closes the card permanently, and a deactivated card can't be used again or reactivated.
* When a card on **My cards** uses up its **One time** limit, the card freezes permanently and has no **Unfreeze**. The sheet says "This card has reached its spending limit and is permanently closed."
* Under **Settings** on a card opened from **My cards**, the cardholder can rename the card in **Card name**. **Save** shows once the name changes.
* With the Employee role alone, a cardholder can't change a card's spend limit on **My cards**. If **Settings** shows the limit and period fields, they are grayed out.
* On **My cards**, **Share card** shows on the **Details** tab to the cardholder, and the cardholder can share the card.
* To share a card on **My cards**, open it and go to **Share card**, choose **Shared with multiple people**, select **Add new**, search employees in **Share card with**, select the people, then select the button that counts them, such as "Share with 2 users".

* A closed card on **My cards** can't be shared.
* On a card opened from **My cards**, **Card owner** under **Shared card** keeps the card to the cardholder. Choosing it on a card that is shared asks "Revoke all shared access?", and **Remove access** confirms.
* To remove one person's shared access to a card on **My cards**, hover over their row under **Shared with**, select the X and select **Remove access**. The person loses their shared access to the card. The cardholder can remove shared access.
* Under **Share card** on **My cards**, Every says "These people have access to card details and can make purchases. They cannot change card settings."
* A card shared with an employee shows a **Shared card** badge when opened. With only shared access to a card, its **Settings** are read-only. A shared-card viewer on **My cards** can change **Spending Budget** if they own its current budget, or assign an unassigned card to a budget they own.
* On **My cards**, an employee with only shared access to a card does not see **Freeze**, **Unfreeze**, **Set pin**, **Update pin**, **Deactivate** or **Share card**, and cannot edit **Card name**.
* On **My cards**, an employee with a card shared with them can use **View info** on an active card to see the card number and CVV.
* Card spend, with receipts, is on **My transactions** in the sidebar.
* Every turns on spending budgets company by company. Once enabled, a card's **Details** tab on **My cards** has a **Spending Budget** section.
* On **My cards**, **Spending Budget** shows the card's budget assignment to anyone who can see the card. A viewer without permission to manage the assignment sees the budget name without a picker.
* With the Employee role alone, changing a card's **Spending Budget** on **My cards** requires ownership of its assigned budget. For an unassigned card, an Employee can choose a budget they own.
* With the Employee role alone, **Spending Budget** on **My cards** offers the employee's own budgets as destinations. Moving a card requires ownership of both its current and destination budgets.
* With the Employee role alone, removing a card's **Spending Budget** on **My cards** requires owning its current budget. Choose **No budget** to open **Remove budget from this card?**, then select **Remove budget**.
* Changing **Spending Budget** on **My cards** affects future transactions. Existing transaction tags do not change.
